Sandra L. Montney, age 79, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at McLaren Medical Center in Lansing.  Sandy was born on October 21, 1936 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of George R and Martha J Field Carter.

     On June 22, 1957, she and Lawrence Montney were married in Clio, Michigan.  Sandy was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area since 1957.  She taught school for the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools for 36 years retiring in 1995.  Sandy taught kindergarten and first grades, at Mary McGuire for 25 years and Vowels for 10 years.  She loved to baby sit her grandchildren, go boating, camping, traveling, and to sew.

     Sandy is survived by her husband, Larry of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Brian and Mary Montney of Shepherd; a son in law, Dennis Carr of Midland; five grandchildren, Nikki and Rich Sprague, Donald Carr, Jonah Montney, Sarah Montney, and Simeon Montney; two great grandchildren, Nash Carr and Eve Carr; two sisters, Clarice and Jack Engelhart of Florida and Louanne and James Schweitzer of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Pamela Carr.

     Funeral services for Sandy were held on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Diane Gordon officiating.  Entombment was in the Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum.  The family received friends on Sunday, March 6 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rowley Funeral Home and at the church an hour before the service on Monday.  Memorial Contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church Lighting Fund.
